July 2011 Wake up Wednesday  - Volunteering at Kids Food Basket

Kids’ Food Basket is a force for "Attacking Childhood Hunger in greater Grand Rapids." They began over eight years ago by serving 125 kids each school day through our sack supper program and now serve over 3,700 kids each day. We will doing a volunteer project in addition to touring the new KFB facility.

Cost:  Breakfast will be provided with either a $5 or $10 recommended donation.

Friends of Grand Rapids Parks is celebrating two wonderful years of working with the community to protect, enhance and expand parks in Grand Rapids. Help us celebrate the past and look forward to a bright future of high quality parks. To celebrate, they are bringing a leading authority in parks and recreation to Grand Rapids to share his insights on what innovative park systems are doing around the country. They have invited CCL Alumni and friends to join them for this celebration!

January 2011 Wake up Wednesday - Talk & Tour at the MSU College of Human Medicine

Join the Center for Community Leadership on a tour of the brand new Michigan State University College of Human Medicine Secchia Center while learning about the economic and social impacts that the college is having on Grand Rapids. Dick Temple, MSU Secchia Center Architect, and Susan Lane, Senior Director of Development and Advancement, will be presenting during a brief breakfast followed a discussion. Guests will then be led on a guided tour of the new facility.

December 2010  Wake up Wednesday - Sneak Peek of Helen DeVos Children's Hospital

In 2006, construction began for the new Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. With more than $103 million contributed by the community, this state-of-the-art hospital and teaching facility will open on January 11, 2011. HDVCH is opening their doors to the Center for Community Leadership to view a sneak peek of this incredible addition to Medical Mile and Grand Rapids at large.

November 2010 Wake up Wednesday - Roofs to Roots

There will be a panel discussion with the Grand Rapids Coalition to End Homelessness about their new "Roofs to Roots" program which highlights that "community begins with housing". The forum will offer a compelling and engaging platform from which to discuss the issue of homelessness and the solutions to address it.
